Mahindra has officially announced the name of its new seven-seater Y400 SUV. The new SUV, which will be the Mahindra badged version of the all-new Ssangyong Rexton and was known so far by its code name Mahindra Y400 will be called the ‘ Mahindra Alturas G4’ and will officially be launched in India on November 24, 2018.
The new SUV will take on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, the Honda CR-V, the Ford Endeavour and the Skoda Kodiaq. The new SUV will be the flagship offering for Mahindra in the county. Bookings for the new SUV will be open today onwards at Mahindra dealers and it is expected that the Alturas G4 to be priced at about Rs 20-25 lakh (ex-showroom).
Talking about the Alturas G4, Veejay Nakra, Chief of Sales & Marketing, Mahindra and Mahindra said, “The word Alturas means ‘height’ or ‘pinnacle’. The Alturas G4 represents a gateway into luxury for those who have reached the pinnacle of success in their lives. Being our most luxurious offering, exquisitely designed and crafted, we believe that the Alturas G4 name perfectly describes this product.”
The Mahindra Alturas (Y400) will be one of the largest SUVs to come from the automaker ever and the company has confirmed that the SUV will be offered exclusively via the separate high-end zones designed within the company’s existing showrooms.
These zones are being called as ‘World of SUVs’ and will include a more premium dealership experience for the customer for both sales and service. In fact, the company is positioning the SUV as a high-end, full-size SUV that offers luxury and exclusivity.
Visually, the upcoming Alturas G4 will be largely similar to the SsangYong G4 Rexton but will feature a new Mahindra-style front grille brand logo at the centre. It will also be loaded with a bunch of smart and premium features like – LED headlamps and taillights, alloy wheels, larger alloy wheels, sunroof and more. Similar to other Mahindra SUVs, the Alturas G4 will also come with an abundance of chrome all over.
As for the cabin, the SUV is expected to come with soft-touch materials all around for a plush feel, along with dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated seats, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto and more. The Mahindra Y400 is likely to come equipped with nine airbags, ABS with EBD, electric parking brake and more.
Powering the new Mahindra Alturas G4 will be a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 183 bhp. Petrol engine although available on the Rexton internationally is unlikely to be offered on the India-spec version at the time of launch.
The SUV will be built at the automaker’s Chakan facility in Maharashtra. Mahindra has also stated that the new Alturas G4 will be competing with SUVs that are priced in the Rs. 30+ lakh price range.
This means that the SUV will be priced in the range of Rs.25 lakh to Rs.30 lakh (ex-showroom), rivalling the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq and the Isuzu MU-X.
