Deepika Padukone, who shared the stage with Laxmi Agarwal at the Chhapaak title track launch, thanked her for supporting the team.
If you have been following how Deepika Padukone, Vikrant Massey and director Meghna Gulzar are promoting their upcoming film Chhapaak, you must be thinking about why Laxmi Agarwal, on whose life the film is based, was not invited to the events. Well, the team of Chhapaak has finally brought her on the stage in front of the media.
Just a week before Chhapaak’s release, they have released the title track of the film. Deepika, Vikrant and Meghna came together to launch the song in Mumbai and also invited Laxmi to join them. The event was also attended by Shankar Mahadevan and Gulzar.
Talking about Laxmi, Deepika said, “Finally meri dost Laxmi Agarwal hamare saath hain aaj. I think the media was very curious. Pehle din jab hum logon ne trailer launch kiya tha toh bahot logon ne pucha Laxmi kahan hai?”
To which Meghna added, “Ye bhi pucha Laxmi kyun nahi hai? Tab humne kaha tha we have a plan for her.”
Deepika further said, “Laxmi, thank you for joining us. Thank you ki aapne humko mauka diya ye kahaani dikhane ke liye, batane ke liye. Ye bahot hi important kahaani hai. Thank you ki aapne dil se kiya. Not once did you doubt us. Not once did you question us. Aur aapne jo bhi kiya hai bahot dil se kiya hai. I hope you are proud of the movie that we have made and I hope we have been able to do justice to your incredible and inspiring story.”
To which, Laxmi replied, “Mujhe bahot khushi hai. Mai Meghna ma’am se 2016 mein mili thi. Meghna ma’am ne bola hum is cause pe kaam karna chahte hain saath mein. 2013 se pehle koi bhi acid-attack violence ko nahi janta tha us tareeke se, lekin jab kuch survivors baahar nikal ke aayi, apni stories ko rakhna shuru kiya, toh woh har kaanon mein awaaz gayi. Aur wo ab ek film ke roop mein baahar aayi (sic).”
Talking about Chhapaak, Laxmi added, “Society ko ye film bahot bada impact degi. Thank you Deepika jo aapne Laxmi ka role play kiya. Mujhe khushi hai ki actual mein jo beauty hai aaj aapne dikha diya ke beauty important nahi hoti hai. Awareness bahot zaroori thi. Is cause ko baahar lana bahot zaroori tha. Society ke dimaag mein jo tezaab hai, ye film ke through niklega (sic).”
Laxmi Agarwal has been involved with the filming of Chhapaak since the beginning.
In an earlier interview with IANS, Laxmi had said, “I was involved with the film. I was happy to share the story of my struggle and survival with the makers of the film.’
“I am always open about my life because I have seen several people in my journey who are doing a lot in front but are suffering behind. I feel if you are an inspiration for someone, then you should come out and talk about these things. Laxmi is an open book,” the acid attack survivor had said.
As far as Chhapaak’s recently released title track is concerned, the song has been crooned by Arijit Singh and is penned by Gulzar. It has currently garnered 1,09,314 views on YouTube.
