One of Salman Khan’s jackets in Maine Pyar Kiya is inspired from that of Tom Cruise from his iconic 1986 film Top Gun.
Salman Khan and Bhagyashree’s Maine Pyar Kiya completed 30 years of release on December 29, this year. The film, directed by Sooraj Barjatya, was among the first Bollywood films that taught generations about love and friendship. It ended up being a cult film and inspired a massive sale of film merchandise and props.
Even the characters’ looks became iconic. But only a few people know that one of Salman Khan’s iconic looks in the film was inspired by Tom Cruise’s character in Top Gun.
Sooraj Barjatya loved Tom Cruise’s Top Gun jacket so much that he designed a one on the similar lines for Salman Khan in Maine Pyar Kiya.
In Top Gun, released in the year 1986, Tom Cruise can be seen wearing a really cool patchwork jacket. The patches were actually logos and emblems of the American Army, Navy and Air Force insignia, and other badges from the defence forces.
Salman Khan’s jacket also had similar insignias pasted on it. While Tom Cruise made the jacket popular among his Western fans, the popularity of the jackets in India is credited to Bhaijaan. The actor looked quite handsome in the jacket.
While we love Salman Khan in the role of Prem in Maine Pyar Kiya, did you know Deepak Tijori and Vindu Dara Singh were also considered for the role? We wonder if the film would become a cult with anyone other than the Dabangg Khan.
