Hyundai has finally revealed the name of the AH2 hatchback and it’s called the Hyundai Santro. The first pictures are out too and it looks great. The all-new Hyundai Santro is one of the hotly anticipated offerings of the season and coincides with the brand’s 20th anniversary in India. Hyundai has built the Santro on an all-new platform and has invested a sum of $100 million in 3 years.
The company has brought in modern styling to the Santro and we can see Hyundai’s Signature cascade grille on the car while the swept back headlamps are nice and sleek. The Hyundai Santro is 3610 mm long and wheelbase has improved too.
The length of the car is 45 mm longer than old Santro. The company also announced that bookings for the car will start online from tomorrow for a token amount of Rs.11, 100 for the first 50,000 customers.
Hyundai India has also packed in the Santro with new age technology features including segment-first 6.5 inch Touch Screen Audio Video System. The Multi-media system is equipped with smartphone connectivity – Android auto, Apple Carplay and Mirror Link along with supporting voice recognition function & rear parking camera display on the screen. The Santro also sees the introduction of rear AC vents which is a segment first.
The all-new Hyundai Santro is equipped with a 4-cylinder 1.1-Litre Petrol engine with low vibrations, superior performance and high fuel efficiency. The petrol version puts out 68 bhp and there’s 99 Nm of torque on offer.
The car will be the first Hyundai model to offer in-house developed Smart Auto AMT Technology and will have a factory fitted CNG option. The mileage with the CNG option on the car is 20.3 kmpl. The power with the CNG stands at 59 bhp.
Speaking at the unveiling of the All New Santro, Y K Koo, MD & CEO, HMIL said, “Today is a historic and proud moment for us, as India has unanimously chosen the name of their Favourite Family Car to be called The All New Santro. Since its first launch, Santro created history with its numerous segment-first innovations and became the Complete Family Car for millions of Indians.”
In the Indian market, the Santro will lock horns with Maruti Suzuki’s Celerio and WagonR, Tata Tiago and even the Renault Kwid 1.0.
